One of the things that’s totally gone out the window for me since having kids has been pampering of any kind. If I’m lucky I might get my hair cut twice a year, and every time I go I wonder why I don’t do it more often – a good hour to myself and swishy hair to boot! Recently a local hair salon Live True London Brixton donated a prize for the charity pub quiz we hosted in October, and kindly invited me to try them out for a Cut and Blow dry too, which, given that my last hair cut was in February (terrible I know…) seemed like a good idea!
It’s a bright modern space and I was greeted with big smiles and friendly faces. I’m always slightly apprehensive about getting my hair cut because I really don’t have a clue about hair (I couldn’t even put my hair in a ponytail until I was about 12!) and hair salons can be a bit cool, trendy and intimidating when your idea of a hair style is a 30 second blast with a hairdryer. If you’re lucky. I needn’t have worried at all because the welcome was a very warm one!
My hair stylist was Charlie, who listened carefully to what I wanted and then made really great suggestions based on the state my hair was in – their website says they are “an easy going, friendly and no judgement salon that is all about making our clients feel as happy and comfortable as possible to explore their style – whatever that may be” and I definitely felt that was the case for my appointment. Even with hair that hadn’t been cut in 9 months!
After a hair wash complete with divine head massage Charlie got to work transforming my unruly mop into something fabulous – complete with easy tips to help me style my hair in a fuss-free way in future.
I went on a day when I had a black tie do later on and was feeling really self-conscious due to a flare up of bad skin. I left relaxed and feeling like a million dollars, with the best hair-cut I’ve had in the longest time. I’ve struggled to find a local hair salon that I have felt at home in, and this one was brilliant, I will definitely be going back.
